Guess who is dancing to raise money for two very important causes? That’s right, we are! My wonderful wife Kim (Millsap) and I (Matt Williams), aka “The Willsaps”, are putting ourselves out there this year to raise more money than we could ever contribute by ourselves. This has been a wonderful event that we have supported and attended in the past, but we are excited to get off our butts and onto our feet to bring awareness and financial support to causes that are dear to us. Please consider learning more about the benefactors of this entertaining event, the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter and the Bartow County/Cartersville Backpack Buddies programs. About the causes:
Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter
The Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter provides emergency shelter as well as physical, emotional, and spiritual support to homeless men, women, and families in our community. All of their guests must be drug and alcohol free and either looking for work or working. In 2019 they helped more than 600 people find jobs, save money, and secure new places to call home. Good Neighbor also serves 13 families in Transitional Housing who are working and taking classes at local community colleges to prepare for living wage employment and improve their children’s future. Each day about 70 people are being sheltered through their programs including nearly 40 children under the age of 18.
Bartow County & Cartersville Backpack Buddies
The Backpack Buddies program sends backpacks of “kid-friendly” food home with children each weekend who are at high risk to otherwise come back to school hungry on Monday. Because of Cartersville Dances with the Stars, the school homeless liaisons are able to provide school supplies and clothing for homeless children as well as tutoring and counseling services.
